Background
Why has voice been left behind?
Point and click, touch, tap, type, even wave and move ---- these interfaces have powered interactions with entertainment, productivity and commerce applications since the emergence of the World Wide Web.
Voice seems to have missed out in the new world of faster broadband networks, powerful edge devices and innovative visual Web applications. Voice applications remain limited by telecommunications networks rather than liberated by the internet.
Until now.
In the 1990s, Tim Price and Vishal Dhawan helped revolutionize the enterprise interactive voice response business. In the early 2000s, they observed the failure of consumer voice portals hindered by operating on a telecommunications network foundation.
They saw the gap between, on the one hand, consumers’ interest in using voice to access information and execute tasks and, on the other, the constraints of traditional technology for enabling voice applications and experiences to meet that interest.
Tim and Vishal knew that the key to unleashing the huge potential for voice in the internet era was developing technology and services that fully leveraged the internet for the creation, distribution and consumption of voice applications.
In 2006 they launched Xtone Networks to develop this technology and services. Xtone has built and deployed the Xtone Voice Web Network and created the Xtone Home service.
Xtone Networks has launched the Voice Web.
